Roentgenographic Study of Thickness of Periodontal Membrane in Bite.

Abstract
Although there were many research reports¢¥, 011 thickness of human periodontal membrane in the past, most of these studies showed different data. `
In the. thickness of human periodontal membrane, it was general tendency that periodontal membrane thickness of functioning teeth were thicker than nonfunctioning teeth, and the different research results of periodontal membrane thickness by different: ages were observed among investigators.
The primary purpose of this study *as to observe the changes of periodontal membrane¢¥ thickness during youth period.
The author obtained the following conclusion after having observed 361-cases-of 25 years old males taken on X-ray in the first. premolar, second premolar, ¢¥and first molar of mandible.
1. Periodontal membrane.thickness of nonfunction teeth (abnormal function) showed following average results Alveolar crest .:0.21 mm.
Middle-root ...0.17.-mm,
Apex of root 0. 20 mm.
2. -Per odontai membrane, thickness, of light function, teeth - QUg.) showed same result as in the case -.of periodontal embrane thickness of nonfunction teeth.,
3. Periodontal membrane thickness of over function teeth (50kg.) showed following results:
Alveolar crest : 0.17 mm.
Middle root 0.16 mm.
Apex of root 0.16 mm.
However, periodontal membrane thickness became thinner than periodontal membrane thickness of nonfunction teeth.
4, Periodontal membrane thickness of extreme function teeth (65kg.) became thicker and average thickness of alveolar crest was 0.28 mm., middle root 0.25 mm., and apex of root 0.24 mm..
